Astrid Huisman-Biemans (°1959) is a Dutch artist. She studied at the Academy of Visual Arts in Tilburg.
Her bronzes seem almost fluid. Astrid creates movement, or as she puts it, she produces ‘dancing’ bronzes. Human proportions are not important for her: she reduces them to essential forms.
People are Astrid’s main source of inspiration. Her bronze sculptures are not only powerful, but also very elegant and refined. She wants to translate the mouvements and feelings of her subjects in her art: ‘life is beautiful!’.
The artist sees the beauty of everyday life. Tender details animate her sculptures: a certain gesture, the ruffles of draped clothing or the lining of a sock. She’s playing with lines. Her bronzes have something dynamic or poetic.
