Carol Slabolepszy (°1956, East London) is a South African artist.

Carol moved to Johannesburg in 1965. In 1999 she embarked on a Fine Art Degree as a mature student and, in 2002, obtained her B.Tech Fine Art from Wits Technikon. She is a qualified art teacher.

The artist has always had a special love for clay sculpting and towards the end of 2011, started making life-size hares out of clay. So began her ‘My Hares and Graces’ project. The animals are pieces of herand are making themselves at home not only in South Africa, but also in the rest of the world.

Once she has created a new animal in clay, her colleague, the experienced Petrus Daluka takes over and produces the moulds that will create each individual animal.

The artist’s hares are unique hand-made, life-size sculptures with a gentle presence. They are hand-cast in a weather-proof acrylic resin. Her hares are finished by hand so that each one has its own special character. Each sculpture has a name, is microchipped with a unique identity number and accompanied by a Letter of Authentication. A percentage of the sales of Carol’s hares is donated to the ‘Endangered Wildlife Trusts Riverine Rabbit Project’.
