Piet Huysentruyt (º1962, Kortrijk), is a Belgian celebrity chef and artist.
As a celebrated star chef in Belgium and France, TV personality and publisher of many cookbooks, Piet Huysentruyt needs no introduction. However, many do not know that Piet is also a visual artist. Unlike the impermanence of his artistic dishes, he finds it interesting that his paintings remain tangible.
In honour of his 60th birthday, The Boutique Gallery is exhibiting some of his paintings, along with photographs highlighting key moments in his life and career. Piet 60 is the name of this exclusive exhibition, between 27 October and 13 November 2022.
Piet’s paintings are very colourful, expressive and passionate. They arise from his passionate personality. In his paintings, he expresses all his emotions, impressions, feelings and even frustrations. In order to be happy, Piet needs complete creative freedom.
Piet started painting in 1990, installing his studio in a small attic room above his restaurant in Wortegem-Petegem. To fully indulge himself, he mainly used very large canvases: 2 by 3 metres. While the paintings from his first period (1990-1997) in Wortegem-Petegem, mainly served to channel his frustration, from 2017 on, in a second phase in South Africa, he paints more self-controlled and with more technical knowledge. For Piet, painting remains a necessity in his pursuit of absolute freedom.
